Staff Correspondent : Six members of an organised gang along with about 39 fake UK visas and passports were arrested in the city on Saturday evening.
Sources said a Special Branch (SB) team of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), led by Special Superintendent AZM Nafiul Islam, in association with the Sylhet city SB conducted a drive in ‘Jaman Printing and Press’ at Haque Mansion at Zinda Bazar.
The team seized 39 counterfeited UK visas and passports from there and arrested MK Jaman, proprietor of the press, and his five employees—Juned Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Sanwar Hussain, Belal Uddin and Habibur Rahman.
Terming the arrestees members of an international visa forgery gang, Assistant Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Akhtar Hussain said they had been continuing the business duplicating seals and visas of British High Commission for several months.
They have already sent a good number of people to the UK through the illegal process, he added.
