Staff Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday sharply reacted to a remark of Jatiya Party lawmaker TIM Fazle Rabbi Chowdhury in parliament.
She also expressed her helplessness with the use of the money allocated for maintaining the offices of the lawmakers at their respective constituencies.
“Each lawmaker is provided with Tk 9,000 for maintaining an office at their respective constituencies.
What can I do if the lawmakers keep the money in their pockets,” said the prime minister.
Speaking on the proposed budget, Rabbi said lawmakers had not enough courage to speak on many issues in the House.
“Lawmakers do not have courage to demand an office at their constituencies,” Rabbi said, adding that the lawmakers roamed around their respective constituencies like vagabonds.
Speaker Abdul Hamid, who was chairing the session, said the
remarks made by the JP lawmaker might be not true.
Following the remarks of Rabbi, the Leader of the House took the floor and said the remarks might be correct in case of his party.
“I think the lawmaker has talked about his party (JP). The lawmakers of his party might have no courage to speak with his leader,” Hasina said, claiming that it was not applicable for Awami League lawmakers.
“The relation between the lawmakers and me is very easy and they can share everything with me without hesitation,” she said.
