Once a Sohrab-Rustam famous heroine Banasree now leads her life as a hawker

Banasree when she was a heroine(Left) and the present Banasree ( Right)

Translated by Mahmudul Hoque Khan Dulal: Nobody could say about one’s luck or what is in store in him or her. In our everyday life we see or hear various interesting story of many people. Till date we have seen many people became millionaire by applying many ways. Of them somebody had no economic solvency but one day they have turned into a moneyed man. But very interestingly earlier we didn’t hear that a rich lady who was accustomed to lead a high profile life has become a poor and was compelled to live in a pitiable condition. This rare incident has taken place in the life of a film actress named Banasree. Now she has been selling religious books in buses or on the roads of the capital city in a bid to meet her livelihood. Shorab Rustam, a Bengali feature flm of ninties in which Banasree acted as the heroine and this film earned a huge popularity to her at that time. Banasree became a film star with in a very short span of time through this film and also earned money with name and fame. She used to live in an airconditioned large flat and travelled with costly and luxurious cars in those days. Once a controversial film producer Faruk Thakur made the film Sohrab Rustam and Banasree did the main role as heroine in it. People used to believe that Banasree was Faruk  Thakur’s wife. He had an intention to make Banasree a top ranked heroine in  film industry and with this end in view he invested crores of taka behind her.
But today ,what do we know about the heroine Banasree? She has been living in a very miserable condition with her three years old boy. As she did not get any sorts of cooperation from her well wishers, relatives and near and dear ones, this ill- fated lady made up her mind to do something for her family needs. Finding no other alternative she starts selling religious books in buses in the capital city with a view to arrange medical expenditure of her baby and their livelihood as well. At present she has been living in a slum in the capital’s Shekertek area.
After Sohrab Rustam two other films Nesha and Mohavumikampo acted by Banasree were released. She also started shooting with Prem Bishorjon, Nishthur Dunia and Vagger Parihash, but those films did not get release and later on her life begun to change like the story of films. Banasree used to live in a big sized luxurious apartment at Mohammadpur in the capital city Dhaka and there was no want of anything. But this huge happiness did not suite her fate. An accident changed her everything. Only a single dispute over a piece of land at Gulsha area was responsible for her present status. In that incident Faruk Talukder shot a man to his opponents who breathed his last on the spot and soon after this he went into hideouts. Since then Banasree had been living in a lonely life.
She initiated a new struggle for her living . Nobody came forward or showed any interest to make films with her. She tried to communicate with many people of the industry but none gave any positive response to her. In this way Banasree was compelled to drop out from film world. To earn her livelihood she started a beauty Perlour business but it did not last long. She gradually became quite helpless and one stage she again get married. She gave birth to a baby son but unluckily her second husband also followed the footsteps of the earlier one. There was no trace of him as of today. Banasree approached for help to Shilpi Samity of Film Development Corporation (FDC) a month back but the authority did not  pay heed to her. She also tried to communicate with Shakib Khan, the President of  Shilpi Samity but she failed to reach to him. She also sought cooperation to Misha Sawdagar, General Secretary of Shilpi Samity but it also did not bring her any positive result. So what else could be done by her for saving herself from poverty?  She took the profession as hawker for selling books in buses or on the streets of the capital city. Is it a shame or it brings any credibility for us?  Source: The Daily Jugantar, September 21, 2013
