DHAKA: Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal(JSD) tried to unite the army when it was on the verge of collapse, President of JSD and Information Minister, Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, told a gathering at Shaheed Col Taher auditorium, here yesterday.
“There was total chaos in the army after the chain of command broke down,” he said of the situation prevailing in the cantonment then.
“In the process of killing Bangabandhu the deviant officers had also broken the chain of command. This led to chaos resulting in the military coup of November 3, 1975 and the jail killings of November 4, 1975,” he said.
Inu said Khaled could not contain the situation rather he further complicated it by providing safe passage to the murderers.
“To save the army and the nation from total anarchy JSD organized a revolt for national unity. But as soon as Zia was freed from custody he exposed his real face,” Inu said.
“He not only killed Col Taher in a mock trial but also turned the cantonment into a slaughter house. Politically, he divided the nation by rehabilitating the war criminals and the murderers of Bangabandhu,” the minister said.
“His equally subversive wife has continued the political legacy till today. In fact, she has taken it a step ahead and fomented and patronized militancy to permanently rout the pro-Liberation forces from the very land that they had created,” he said.
JSD general secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia and other party leaders also spoke at the meeting.
