DHAKA: The Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) has stood by Bangladesh on trial of 1971 crimes against humanity, rejecting a propaganda being carried out by Jamaat-e-Islami and its crucial ally BNP since 2013, foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali said.
“ICC prosecutor Ms. Fatou Bensouda in a recent letter matter informed us that there is no legal basis of such allegations,” Ali told a media briefing convened at his office on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming Japan visit.
He said the ICC letter proved again that Jamaat-BNP and their affiliates were spearheading a “heinous” and “false” campaign against Bangladesh and Bengali nation.
“Particularly anti-liberation Jamaat-e-Islam is carrying out such a campaign to cover up the genocides, rapes, arson and other crimes against humanity they had committed in 1971,” the minister said.
