DHAKA: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said the government has a plan to modernize the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) by taking time-befitting steps.
“The government is firm to modernize the RAB. The government is working to gear up its overall activities as a disciplined elite force,” he told journalists after a meeting with the commanders of all its 14 battalions on the occasion of 12th Rising Day of RAB and 46th Independence Day.
About the meeting with RAB high officials, the Home Minister said different proposals including the enactment of new law, formation of more new battalions and providing more logistic supports for RAB came in the meeting.
“I hope all problems will be resolved gradually,” he said lauding various outstanding contribution of RAB to control terrorism and militancy since the inception of the force.
Replying to a query, the Home Minister said the investigation into the murder of college student Sohagi Jahan is in progress. “No comment will be made until the investigation ends,” he added.
About the Bangladesh Bank’s reserve heist, he said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is working on it giving utmost priority.
“There is major headway in the investigation and we are hopeful to get a clue in this connection,” the Home Minister added
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, Senior Home Secretary Dr Mojammel Haque Director General of RAB Benazir Ahmed , Additional DG (operation) Col Ziaul Haque Zia, ADG (administration) Dr Aftab Uddin Ahmed, Chief of RAB Intelligence Lieutenant Col Abul Kalam Kalam Azad, Director of Legal and Media Wing Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan were also present.
