Geeteara Safiya Chowdhury is Chairman and Managing Director of Adcomm Ltd. a leading advertising & communication company in the country. She was born in Dhaka She is the eldest of the six siblings of Mr. A.F.M Safiyyullah and Ms. Jahanara Begum. She was brought up under strict discipline and with constant reminder that there is no difference between her and any boy.Geeteara did her senior Cambridge from St. Francis Xavier’s Convent, Dhaka. She did her first year Intermediate from Holy Cross College, Dhaka and her final year Intermediate from Central Women’s College, Dhaka. She obtained her Honour’s and Master’s degrees in English Literature from Dhaka University. Beside her studies her student life was spent in writing for different news papers printed from Calcutta, Karachi and Dhaka. She spent four years working in The Pakistan Observer (now The Bangladesh Observer) and two years working in “She Magazine” in Karachi.

Geeteara entered the world of advertising in 1972 and spent two years working in one of the leading advertising agencies of that time, Inters pan in Dhaka. In the year 1974 she took a bold step and established her own advertising agency Adcomm on the 4th of July. With firm determination and hard work she built up her agency to become one of the leading advertising agencies of the country. Adcomm handles many of the big brands of the world in the country. It has also created and handle many of the major Bangladeshi brands. To quote Geeteara “Advertising was a past time for me, then it became my profession and now it is my passion”

Geeteara has been recognized for her professional achievements both nationally and internationally. In 1995 she got the “Annanya Award” by a leading women’s magazine Annanya in recognition of her achievements and contributions in business as a woman entrepreneur. In 1999 The Federation of Indian Women Entrepreneurs gave her the “Priyadarshini Award” and in 2000 The Fortune Magazine, IBM and Christian Dior, USA recognized her achievements and awarded her as one of “The Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World” The Daily Star and DHL honored her as “The Outstanding Woman in Business in the year 2002.” For her contribution in taking the advertising profession forward, not only in Bangladesh but worldwide, Geeteara was honored as a “Leading Advertising Practioner” by the Asian Federation of Advertising Agencies Association in 2007. The Dhaka Ad Club also honored her with lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.

Greeteara is not only the first women to become a member of the Dhaka club on her own right on the 10th of October,1978 but she also served  as an Executive Committee member for six terms and as a president for three terms. She was president of Zonta Club and Advertising Agencies Association of Bangladesh. She also carried out her responsibility as an adviser to the Ministry of Industries, Jute & Textile, Social Welfare and Women & Children Affairs of the recent past Caretaker Government.  She attended numerous workshops, conferences and seminars at home and abroad and traveled to a number of countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and America. Ms. Geeteara is married to Nazim Kamrun Chowdhury and the couple have two children Nazim Farhan Choudhury and Fahima Choudhury who are both in business.

Adcomm Limited is one of the largest marketing and social communication companies in Bangladesh.
