Gazi Majharul Anwar, a highly experienced Film Personality who is widely known as famous Lyrist, Film Producer, Director and Distributor to among the People of the country. He was born on February 22, 1943 at a village Taleswar, Doudknandi of Comilla district. After completion his graduation this veteran personality of filmdom introduced his career with the then Radio Pakistan as Lyrist since 1964 and till date he has written around twenty thousand songs. Mr. Gazi Majharul Anwar started to write stories, dialogues, scripts and songs for film industry since 1965 and for television from the very beginning of its formal launch. Apart form this he has written many poems and short stories which have been published in different newspapers, magazines, and so on.
As mentioned earlier that Gazi Majharul Anwar has written above twenty thousand songs so far in which the worth mentioning a few songs are: Joy Bangla Banglar Joy, Aktara Tui Desher Katha, Ekbar jete Dena Amar chotto Sonargaon, Jodi Amkey Jante sadh Hoye, Akasher Hate Achey Ak Rash Nil, Sudhu Gan Geye parichaya, Ganere khatai Saralipi, Achen Amar Moktar achen Amar Barrister, Aonek Sadher Moina Amar Badhan Kete Jae, Ami Sat Sagar pari diye, Tomi Ar Ekbar Ashia Jao more Kandaiya, Sobai to bhalo basha chaiye, Aoyol Baol laloner Desh, Tomari Parashey Zibon Amar Dhanno Holo, Amai jodi prosno Koro Kolokakolir desh, Eai mon tomakey dilam and so an so forth. The historic song ‘Joy Bangla, Banglar Joy’ was written during the Liberation War and it was treated as the signature tune of Swadhin Bangla Beter Kendro.
As a film Producer he produced Samadhan, Agnishikha, Somadhi, Anurodh, Zinzir, Anar Koli, Nantu Ghatak, Shasti, Chor, Bicharpoti, Sandhi, Swadhin, Srodha, Khudha, Ulka, Tapasha, Amma, Paradhin, Ragi, Artonad, Jiboner galpa, Aai je Dunia following and Pashaner prem He directed the following films shasti (1984), chor (1985), Bichar Poti (1986), Sandhi (1987), Shakkhor (1988), Sharto (1989), Swadhin (1990), Srodha (1992), Samor (1992), Khudha (1994), Senha (1995), Topashsha (1996), Amma (1998), Paradhin (1998), Ragi (199), Artonat (2002), Jiboner Galpo (2006), Aai Je Dunia (2007), and Pashaner prem (2008). As story and script writer his worth mentioning films are Ananto Prem, Bini Sutar Mala, Protinidhi, Otithi, Sandhi, Swadhin, Arpan and many more popular films.
Currently this very well known Personality of film industry is carrying out his responsibility as the President of Bangladesh Film Producers Distributors Association. Gazi Mazharul Anwar has been contributing enormously to the Film Industry for over four decades and has enriched our cultural arena through his relentless writing of songs, stories for films which have already been acclaimed by many quarters. It is needless to mention that his significant contribution to our cultural arena is incomparable and for this he has received many awards/crests from many socio-cultural organizations as well as from the government part. He was awarded Ekushey Padak-2002, Bangladesh President Gold Medal, an award first of its kind in an independent country after Liberation for his outstanding contribution to the Great Liberation War which was announced by Bangabandhu Shaikh Mojibur Rahman, the founder president of Bangladesh. Apart from this, he received Zia Sarna padak-2002, Desh Netri Sanskrctik Parishad Award, National Film Award, 1992, 1996, 2001, 2002 & 2003, Bacchas Award, Asha Sarnapadak (1998), Matlab, Chandpur), Late- Dev Bhattacharya & S. M Sultan Memorial Award, 1994, Comilla-Chandpur Bramanbaria Award-1995, SI DAB Award, Dhaka Performing Arts Award. Nattyashaba Award, Purbani Chalaschitra Pathak Award, Chitrali Pathak Award, Comilla Foundation Award, Jahir Raihan Chalaschitra Award, Sequence Award, Dhaka Bishwabiddalaya Shikkhai Alo Award, Raza Hossain Khan Smriti Award, Bangladesh Socio Cultural Center Award, Cine Journalist Association Life time Achievement Award, Film Audience Award, and CJFB Lifetime Achievement Award are worth mentioning out of more than 200 awards of different organizations. The versatile icon of Film industry has already been selected as the best Lyrist of highest number of songs which was revealed by a survey conducted by BBC in Bangladesh and India.
This should be considered the highest position in this cultural arena and ever received this recognition in Bangladesh. Aside his involvement in cultural arena Gazi Majharul Anwar is also involved in business. He is the Chairman of LYRIC GROUP which comprises with 6 garments industres.
