Staff Correspondent:The country is heading towards an economic disaster due to the confrontation among the major political parties and violence in the street, said Zafar Iqbal Siddique, President of Bangladesh Garments Printers Association (BGPA) and Chairman of Defoin Group while talking to this Correspondent in an exclusive interview recently.
Zafar, who is also a Member of Parliament (MP), stated that the economy continues to bleed and suffer heavy losses in almost all important sectors on account of frequent strikes and blockades enforced by 18 party opposition alliance led by BNP.
As the ongoing political turmoil is affecting all economic activities across the country, he also warned of a dire consequence of it on the national economy. “Unless this politics of destruction is stopped, it will lead the economy towards a disaster,” he added.
Demanding for an immediate solution of the ongoing political crisis, he urged the major political parties to end the hostility and political conflicts for the interest of the national economy.
Appreciating yesterday’s ‘White Flag Procession’ organized by FBCCI, Zafar said, the businessmen are contributing heavily to keep running wheels of the national economy. They can transform the country into an economically developed nation within shortest possible time once a congenial business environment is ensured.
The BGPA leader earlier carried out a huge rally from his trade organisation in front of Defoin Tower in the city to obverse the ‘White Flag Procession.’ Later, a ‘human chains’ was formed across the Mirpur, Rupnagar road with white flags led by him.
“Only the white flag procession is not a solution of the ongoing political deadlock. A political will from the major parties is necessary to end the crisis,” he added.
Commenting on the prevailing political culture, he said, “We are the victim of ill politics and our leaders are responsible for this. They are doing dirty politics keeping hostage of the mass people and economy. This should not be continued.
“We need honest politicians having proper education and once good people will come to the politics then the present culture of bad politics may be changed,” he noted.
