Staff Correspondent: “To familiarise the younger generation with my past hit songs, I have been working to bring out 32 numbers altogether in four albums before the upcoming Eid-ul Azha. The albums are expected to be released on October 29,” said Kumar Bishwajit in a conversation with daily sun recently.

In the country’s music arena, Kumar Bishwajit is a name that needs no introduction. He has such a melodious voice which can charm the listeners soothing their worldly aches.

Over three decades, Bishwajit has been ruling the music scene through his distinctive style of performance and conquered hearts of millions through his melodious numbers like Tore putuler moto kore shajiye, Bishader swarolipi, Dufota chokher jol, Jekhane shimanto tomar and many more.

The iconic emblem of contemporary Bangla music, Kumar Bishwajit said, “For the younger generation, I have taken an initiative to bring out my previous popular numbers again as they hardly know about them. And, the outcome is the release of four albums including Megher Palki, Ekta Akash, Swapner Anagona and Premer Abhash which will be released together through a launching ceremony. I hope, we will be able to bring out these albums on October 29.”

“The albums will feature a total of 32 numbers from 80s till date. Of them, Gotokal chhilo tomar jonmodin, Boro koshto holo, Ogochhalo bichhana, Tumi bhul korey eshey chhile kina janina, Shal piyaler boney, Chondona go, Tumi roj bikeley amar baganey, Tore putuler moto korey shajiye and Jhekhaney shimanto tomar are worth mentioning. These songs will focus on my long music career,” he added.

“I have not bring any major changes in the songs as these are popular numbers and people have accepted them the way they are,” he opined.

Asked about his early days in the music scene, Kumar Bishwajit took a trip down memory lane and recalled, “As a student of class seven, I took part in an inter-district school music competition. One of the officials of the then Chittagong Radio found me promising and asked me to join a radio programme titled Nabokallol. And that was the beginning of my music career.”

“Ayub Bachchu, Miki Mannan, Pilu Khan and I formed a band in 1977 and we used to practise together regularly. Later, we decided to go to Dhaka with compositions by Nakib Khan,” he added.

“In the meantime, Sheulimala, a music studio, was inaugurated where I recorded the song Torey Putuler Moto Korey Shajiye. I have never looked back since the song went on air on the BTV,” said Bishwajit.

A gifted voice, Kumar Bishwajit, who released 22 solo albums and worked on more than 50 mixed albums, has recently won the National Film Award as a playback singer for his song Ekti chand chhara raat in Swami Strir Wada.

He said, “Receiving award is always delightful. And, the pleasure doubles when it comes as a national recognition. I think this award will boost my morale in future.”

About his future plan, Kumar Bishwajit said, “For any singer, love from fans is the most important thing. If my fans love me the same way they did in the past then I am sure that I will be able to give a lot more to the music scene.”

“I wish to sing until the last moment of my life,” concluded Kumar Bishwajit.
