DHAKA: All the scheduled banks of the country have been asked to setup a security hotline with police stations to ensure safety and security of their staff and clients at all branches.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued the directive to the managing directors and the chief executive officers of all scheduled banks against the backdrop of the frightful robbery in a branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank (BCB) in Katgora Market area, Ashulia on Tuesday.
In the directive, the central bank asked all banks to apply immediately to the police authorities and the nearby police stations of their branches for setting up the hotline. Referring to the letter of BB Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, which he sent earlier on the day to the inspector general of police (IGP), BB said policy authorities had already been requested to provide necessary support to this effect.
Eight people, including an alleged robber, were killed during the bank robbery on Tuesday.
