JHALOKATI: Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yrsterday said drug abuse must be prevented to ensure a sound and safe health of the students and young generation in the greater interest of the country.
“The problem of drug abuse specially addiction to yaba tablets has taken an epidemic form at present that is destroying a section of university and college students and young generation,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange-meeting at the conference room of Jhalokati Deputy Commissioners’ office here.
Amu, also Awami League central leader, observed that the irresponsibility and unconsciousness of parents and guardians are the root-cause of this addiction to health hazardous contraband items.
Speed Trust, a Non-Government Organization (NGO) and Ganoskhkharota Avijan (Mass-Signature Campaign) organized the view-exchange meeting with Jhalokati ADC Jakir Hossain in the chair.
Referring to ongoing development trend in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the senior minister said more progress is possible if all concerned extend their hands of cooperation in the greater interest of country and its people.
Deputy Secretary of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry Rafiqul Islam, Police Super Suvash Chandra Saha, district Awami League President Sardar Mohammad Shah Alam and general secretary Khan Saifullah and local representatives of different government and non-government organizations and political parties were also present on the occasion.
