BARISAL: Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday urged the people to pay income tax in order to whiten their income or make it lawful.
“If you pay income tax disclosing your source of earning then your income or money will be whitened and legalized, otherwise, it would be identified as black money although it has been earned from legal source,” the minister said as the chief guest while inaugurating a weeklong income tax fair on the premises of Ashwini Kumar Town Hall here.
The present government has a plan to make an “economic zone” concentrating on the southern region which would increase people’s earnings through generation of huge employment opportunities in this region, said Amu, who is also an Advisory Council member of Awami League.
Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out from the Club Road regional office here marking the day which reached the fair venue on the Ashwini Kumar Hall premises. Then the minister formally inaugurated the fair by releasing pigeons.
City Awami League General Secretary Advocate Afzalul Karim, Sadar upazila Chairman Saidur Rahman Rintu, Freedom Fighter Enayet Hossain Chowdhury and Tax Commissioner of Barisal Tax Region M Zahid Hasan were present, among others.
Besides, a reception was accorded to 35 highest tax payers of the six districts under the division, including Barisal City Corporation, on the income tax day.
There were arrangements for e-TIS registration for new taxpayers and e-TIN re-registration for old taxpayers at the fair.
