Zahid Maleque, MP,Chairman, BTA Group

Mr. Zahid Maleque, MP, a renowned industrialist was born the year 1959 in a respectable Muslim family. He is the only son of Late Col. A Maleque and Ms. Fouzia Maleque and currently is the Chairman of Bangladesh Thai Aluminium Ltd., Sun Life Insurance Co. Ltd., Rahat Real Estate and Construction Ltd., Pristine Color Ltd. and World Wide Enterprise Ltd.

Late Col. (Rtd) A Maleque was also very well known personality among the people of the country as he was a social worker, foresighted politician and also extremely bountiful. He was commissioned in the armed forces of the erstwhile Pakistan in 1959 and carried out his responsibilities in various important positions. He was the Brigade Major of Independent Brigade Group and in 1974 he was appointed Director Military Operation and later on Director Military Training. Mr. A. Maleque involved himself in active politics in 1986 and got elected as MP from his constituency (Manikgonj-Saturia) and in the same year he was appointed Mayor of Dhaka City Corporation.

In 1989 he was appointed Textile Minister of Bangladesh. Late Col. A Maleque joined Bangladesh Awami League under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina in which he became a member of the Advisory Council of Awami League. A dedicated personality Col. A Maleque made Dhaka the ‘Most beautiful City’ (Tilottoma Dhaka) by his untiring efforts as the City Mayor. He established many roads, bridges, culverts, Schools, Colleges, Masjids, Madrasha, Mandir in Manikgonj as well and elsewhere in the country. This dedicated leader fall sick when he was addressing a public rally and was admitted to National Heart Institute where he breathed his last on July 16, 2000. His enormous contributions to the society will be ever remembered by the people of the country.

Mr. Zahid Maleque who hails from village Chandoir of Garpara Union under Sadar Upazila of Manikgonj was known as a brilliant student in his student life. He did his BA (Hon’s) and M.A (English Literature) from University of Dhaka. He joined Bangladesh Thai Aluminum, a business organization established by his father as a Director and within a very short span of time he made huge expansion of the industry. At a very tender age Mr. Zahid Maleque carried out his responsibilities successfully as Managing Director, which was bestowed on him. As a successful industrialist and businessman he was honored as C.I.P (Commercially Important Person) by the Government of Bangladesh in 1997.

Mr. Zahid Maleque married Ms. Shabana Maleque, daughter of Late Maksudul Hossain of Rajshahi in 1984. They are blessed with one son and two daughters. A very sober and religious person Zahid Maleque performed his hajj in 1997. Following the footsteps of his father Col. A. Maleque he got involved with active politics with a view to implement the hopes and aspirations of people of his constituency (Manikgonj-3) and took part in the National polls held in 2001. He has gained much popularity among his people as an ideal politician, social worker and a man of generosity. He also established many schools, colleges, madrashas and contributed to development works and introduced scholarships for meritorious students. He has been also made president of different institutions. A permanent member of Dhaka Club and donor member of Gulshan Club Mr. Zahid “have been also carrying out his responsibility as a Director of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries since 2004. He has been elected MP of 9th Parliamentary Polls held in

December 29, 2008 by getting huge votes from Manikgonj-3 constituency (Manikgonj Sadar and Saturia Upazilla). Mr. Zahid is also carrying out his duty as member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry Ministry since February 17, 2009 successfully. He has travelled many countries in connection with business and other purposes. About BTA: Bangladesh Thai Aluminium Ltd. is the largest manufacturer of anodized and powder coated aluminium profiles, doors, windows, curtain walls, unitized curtain walls, rail-way coach windows, ladders, bolts and allied items in Bangladesh. Its voyage began in 1979 as a joint venture company with Thailand. Some prestigious projects completed by BTA are: National Assembly building (12 storey), Dhaka-Municipal Corporation building (15 Storey), Bangladesh Bank (Central Bank) building (32 storey) BRAC Head Office (22 storey), Rural Electrifications Board building (10 storey), Shahajalal International Airport (former ZIA) building (different heights), JBC Building (20 storey), Eastern Housing projects. (18 storey, 10 storey), IDE Building (20 storey) Rupayan Center (21 storey), BTA Tower (16 storey), Awal center (24 storey), Noor Tower (18 storey) and UTC building (20 storey).
