RN Desk: Two alleged criminals were killed in a “shootout” between their accomplices and members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in capital’s Uttara-11 number area in the wee hours of today.
The deceased were identified as Jahirul Islam, 25, and Saju Akandh,28. They were members of a criminal gang who used to involve in checque fraudulence, RAB said.
“The ‘shootout’ took place as they opened fire targeting the members of RAB-1 who were chasing their private car in Uttara area at about 3 am today”, Captain Ovishek Ahmed of RAB media wing told BSS.
He said at one stage of gunfight, Jahirul and Saju were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while their cohorts managed to flee the scene.
Two revolvers, six bullets, six machetes and three knives were recovered from the spot and the private car, he said adding, “Details will be informed later.”
The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said hospital sources.
