Reducing case gridlock major challenge for judiciary: Anisul

DHAKA: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq yesterday described the lessening of the case gridlock a major challenge for the judiciary and the government as nearly 30 lakh cases are pending with courts.

“The government has introduced Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) system after making amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure and Money Loan Court Act for quick disposal of the long pending cases,” he said.

The minister was addressing the inaugural ceremony of 137th refresher course for additional district and sessions judges and equivalent judicial officers at Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) here.

Anisul said the government has taken necessary steps to bring a time-befitting change in the judiciary through reformation of 100-year-old laws.

He sought more sincere efforts from judges to decrease the case gridlock.

The minister said the government has taken zero tolerance policy against corruption as it is one of the major obstacles to the development.

He urged the judges to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity, honesty and professionalism in dealing with the graft cases.

JATI Director General Justice Khondker Musa Khaled chaired the function while Law and Justice Division Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque also addressed the function.
