DHAKA: President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday hoped accurate and integrated National Household Database (NHD) would strengthen the country’s information management and help implement the government’s social safety net programme successfully.
They expressed identical views in separate messages on the occasion of National Household Database (NHD).
The President and the Prime Minister also wished overall success of the 2nd phase of information gathering programme at field level under NHD project of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Abdul Hamid, in his message, said since its inception BBS has been playing an important role to feed different statistics that help formulate development plans of the country.
He said the government has undertaken various development programmes including poverty alleviation, food security and development of nutrition, ensuring of sound health and scope of quality education for all, gender equity and women empowerment side by side with social safety net programme to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In continuation of that, BBS under Statistics and Informatics Division has been formulating the household database gathering information from all households of the country, he added.
President Abdul Hamid said the database will contain socioeconomic data of households apart from demographic data that will help portray the socioeconomic condition of households in a scientific method.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted all concerned of National Household Database (NHD) programme for formulating the database, first of its kind, containing data about all people of the country.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had established BBS in 1974 with a view to building the information management as a skilled and strong institution, she said.
Since then, the Prime Minister said, the institution has been conducting different informatics with efficiency, including population census, agriculture census, industrial statistics, national income statistics, economic census and manpower survey.
“We have modernized entire activities of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. We have made easier the way of getting information by people and helped people yield benefits of different (development) programmes,” she added.
The Prime Minister expressed her hope that the initiative of BBS to prepare National Household Database (NHD) with information of all households will take the country one step ahead towards the digitization.
She also hoped that the database would play a commendable role to the socioeconomic development of the country through alleviation of poverty.
