M. Tajul Islam is one of the leading and a successful Islami Insurance personalities in the country. A very dedicated, religious minded and above all a man of generosity Mr. Tajul Islam is contributing significantly to nation building activities since a long time. Born in a village Alokdia of Feni district. M. Tajul Islam did his B.Com (Hons) in Administration in 1972 and M.Com (1st Class) in Management in 1973 and started his career as a lecturer of Management Department of Abuzur Gifary College, Dhaka, Later. He also served in K.S. College, Gazipur as Head of the management Department.
Currently M. Tajul Islam is carrying out his responsibilities as the Vice-Chairman, Fareast Islami Life Insurance Company Ltd., Chairman, Executive Committee, Islami Insurance Bangladesh Ltd., Vice-Chairman, Board of Governors, Southeast University, Dhaka. He is the Chairman of Intimate Properties Ltd., Chairman, Dhaka Central Multipurpose Co-operative Federation Ltd., Chairman Advisory Council Aziz Co-operative Commerce & Finance Bank Ltd., An Executive Member of Bangladesh Insurance Association Mr. Islam is also Vice Chairman, Advisory Committee, Jubo Academy Chairman, S & F Knit Composite Limited.
An experienced personality in Banking Mr. Tajul Islam contributed significantly as a professional in Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited in which he held various important positions since 1983 to till 2002. He worked as a Senior Trainer for the Bankers in Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) for the period 1980 to 1983 and was responsible for coordinating training courses for senior & Mid-Level Bank Officers/Executives on Foreign Exchange & Foreign Trade, Personal Management & Human Relations, Credit Management, Project Management system (PMS), Agricultural Finance etc and conducting classes on different Banking, Financing and Management Topics. During this time he also worked as an Associate Editor of the BANK PARIKRAMA; a quarterly professional Journal of the Institute. He also worked as a co-researcher in different research projects of the institute.
Mr. Tajul Islam also served in Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh as a class- 1 Officer in the rank of Assistant Director for the period of 1978 to 1980 was responsible for drafting National Export Policy, Export Planning, maintaining liaison with international organizations, such as International Trade Centre (ITC), Geneva, Commonwealth Fund for Technical. development EEC, JETRO etc. Coordinating Officer for export co-ordination unit and so on. He also participated in many training courses during his long career and a few of which are: Export Marketing ITC UNCTAD/GATT- 1978. Trainers training course for Agricultural credit, Reserve Bank of India, Puna, India, 1981. He participated a series of Export Promotion Seminars for high level executives from export oriented enterprises and foreign trade experts from public administration in Africa, Asia and Latin American countries held from 6th October to 6th November, 1980 in Federal Republic of Germany, Two days. International Seminar on Islamic Banking held in 1987 at Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Orientation program in American Express Bank, Hong-Kong in November, 1991. Mr. Tajul Islam attended in the International course on ‘Strategic Management’ held in Iran from May 8th to June 17, 1993. He worked as a Researcher in a Supply Study of six nontraditional exportable of Bangladesh sponsored by the Export Promotion Bureau and International Trade Centre (ITC) Geneva and conducted by Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management.
To his credit Mr. M. Tajul Islam wrote a good number of articles on Banking, Finance and Islamic Banking which were published in different journals and national dailies during the last few years. A co-author of a Book in Islamic Banking under style “Islamic Bank Baybasta” and an another of a book titled “Islamic Bima Babasta.” Mr. Tajul Islam wrote article on ‘Management Problems- Public Sector Corporations’ which published in management journal of Department of Management of Rajshahi University in 1974. He also wrote ‘Impact of Trade Unionism on Management Efficiency’ and ‘Customer Services in Bank Branches which were published in the Bank Parikrama in 1981 and 1982 respectively.
Alongside business activities Mr. Tajul Islam is also involved in many social and cultural organizations. He is a Member of Bangladesh Economic Association, Founder Council Member, Bangladesh Islami Bankers’ Association and Honorary Chairman, Youth Academy. Mr. Islam is the founder of one the biggest private universities “Southeast University”, “South Asia Foundation” and at present he is the 1st Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the said University and the Foundation. He is also the present Chairman of Just Internatioinal School and College. A widely travelled personality M. Tajul Islam attended in the International Trade Fair held in Brussels, Belgium on April, 1978 as Pavilion Director on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh and also attended Gothenburg, Sweden International Trade in October 1978 as Head of Bangladesh Delegation. He attended a meeting of the Co-ordination Committee of Islamic Economic Research and Teaching Institutes in 1992 in Kualalampur, Malaysia. Besides tour to U.K, Brussels, EEC Head Quarters almost all cities of FRG including Berlin, the Netherlands, UAE, India, Hong-Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and so on. His relentless efforts for making Bangladesh economically viable and significant contribution to the socio-economic arena Mr. Tajul Islam had been venerated many times both locally and internationally. He received many Awards/Crests for this so far and also intends to play a pivotal role in a bid to develop our overall economy as well as the welfare of the society in days to come.
