Khaled gives important info in arms case: police

DHAKA: Police yesterday said they have managed to collect important information from former Jubo League leader Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan in connection with the arms case lodged against him.

Police said this at a report filed with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court as they produced the accused before the court after end of his four-day remand in the case and pleaded for court’s permission to take Khaled on a three-day remand in narcotics case.

Investigation officer of the case and detective branch (DB) of police, Inspector Fazlul Haque submitted the report today. Allowing the police plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari gave permission to take Khaled in remand in the narcotics case.

Separate Dhaka courts on September 19 placed former Jubo League Dhaka South unit organizing secretary Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan in a total of seven-day remand in two cases lodged over possessing of illegal arms and narcotics.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda placed Khaled on four-day remand in arms case, while Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman placed him on three-day remand in narcotics case as police produced Khaled before the courts and pleaded for him to be placed on seven-day remand in each of the two cases.

Concerned public prosecutor at that time had said Khaled will be taken into remand in phases, meaning he will be remanded for four-days in arms case first, followed by three-day remand in narcotics case.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-3 arrested Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan from his Gulshan residence on September 18 evening for allegedly running an illegal casino in the city’s Fakirerpool area. The law enforcing agency seized illegal weapons, yaba and huge cash from his residence.

RAB handed him over to Gulshan Police Station on September 19.

RAB filed three cases, one for possessing illegal arms, one under narcotics control act and one under money laundering prevention act against Khaled.

Jubo League recently expelled Khaled for breaching the organisation’s discipline and involvement in anti-social activities.
