Jamuka thanks Unesco for recognizing March 7 speech

DHAKA: Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) yesterday thanked the UNESCO for recognizing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic March 7 speech as a world heritage.

Leaders of the Jamuka thanked the Unesco at a meeting held here with Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haq in the chair.

Jamuka member M Rasidul Alam proposing a thanksgiving motion at the meeting said the March 7 speech was once for only the Bangali nation but now it has become the global asset.

The speakers said the recognition of the speech by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) was expected as the extempore speech of Father of the Nation had been able to reach the Bangali nation at the final stage of liberation struggle.

Terming the speech as a matter of great pride for the country, they said Bangabandhu in his short speech highlighted the history of long 23 years of repression on Bangalis that also knocked the whole world during the Liberation War in 1971.

UNESCO gave recognition to Bangabandu’s March 7 speech as a world heritage at its meeting on October 30 this year. Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech made us proud as it gave us an independent state, Bengali nation and Bangla language kept country’s head high globally.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Shipping Minister M Shahjahan Khan, M Abdus Shahid MP, Mohammad Motahar Hossain, MP, Shadon Chandra Majumder, MP, war injured freedom fighter Mohammad Rashidul Alam, Major (retd) Wakar Hasan, Bir Protik, Secretary of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry Aporup Chowdhury and Jamuca Director General Mohammad Mizanur Rahman attended the meeting.
