Inu urges people not try to be foreigners

DHAKA: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu yesterday urged people of the country not try to be foreigners.

He was speaking at the Fifth Folklore Summer School and Workshop at Bangla Academy here.

The people of this land did not believe in communalism or inequity and that’s why there was no room for militant demons, Inu said, adding, people of this country had developed a culture of kindness but they react to any kind of parochialism or inequity.

He said, “Authoritarianism, possessiveness, communalism and militancy were never part of our culture. This was all a part of the colonial heritage.” Freedom Fighter Inu urged people not to speak Bengali with an English accent or Arabise Bengali.

Inu said this is the land of pluralism where Sufism, Brahmanism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity flourished side by side.

“Here, there was the lyric of humanism, egalitarianism and pluralism,” he said.

Professor Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman chaired the meeting while director general of Bangla Academy Dr Shamsuzzaman Khan and folk-lore specialists from India, USA and other countries were present.
