DHAKA; Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday said the government has taken a programme to enhance skill of the parliament members and the officials of the parliament secretariat.
The Speaker said this at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop titled ‘Leadership Training for Secretariat Officials of Bangladesh Parliament’ at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here.
“As per the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a programme has been taken to increase expertise of the parliament lawmakers and parliament secretariat officials,” she told the workshop, jointly organized by Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad, UNDP and Common Purpose International.
A large team of the 10th parliament officials have been imparted training at the Indian Lok Shaba, the lower house of the Indian parliament, she added.
Besides, the expertise enhancement training of the officials are also going on with the Westminster Foundation of the United Kingdom, the speaker told the function.
The capacity building training already has been imparted to the lawmakers through the UNDP, Dr Shirin Sharmin noted. “It is very much important to make the parliament secretariat officials capable through imparting them training as the role of these officials is important in parliament operation,” she explained.
Chaired by Parliament Secretariat Senior Secretary Dr M Abdur Rab, the workshop was also attended, among others, by UNDP Country Director in Bangladesh Sudipto Mukherjee, UNDP’s Senior consultant and Bangabandhu’s grandson Radwan Mujib Siddique Bobi, Asia-Pacific Chief Executive of Common Purpose Adirupa Sengupta.
A total of 30 parliament officials took part in the workshop.
