DSC begins drive against expired vehicles

DSC begins drive against expired vehicles

DHAKA: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today started drive against expired vehicles and filed 63 cases on the first day of the operation as part of their initiative to ease traffic situation in the capital city.

Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, the main coordinator of the drive, told BSS that they conducted the drive from 12 noon to 4pm and filed cases against 63 vehicles, fined Taka 1.28 lakh and dumped two vehicles while seized necessary documents and papers of 14 vehicles.

Chowdhury, who is also the chief property officer of the corporation, said the DSCC is operating the drive against over 20-year-old vehicles to reduce traffic congestion in the city.

DSCC is conducting the drive in cooperation with Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The drive will continue for the next 14 working days.

According to the DSCC sources, BRTA executive magistrate Munibur Rahman and Mazharul Islam conducted the drives in city’s Golabshah Mazar and Khilgaon Khidmah Medical Center areas.

Besides, Executive Magistrate of the DSCC Elias Mia conducted the drive at Motijheel commercial district.

According to sources, the DSCC officials fined the vehicles owners for various offenses, including carrying of extra passengers, not having route permit, registration and tax token.

Chowdury said that charges made for not paying minimum license fees.

Earlier, the DSCC conducted a one-month drive from March 5 last. During the period, the mobile court sentenced 72 drivers to jail for different terms. A total of 1,188 cases were filed, Taka 26 lakhs realized as fine and 65 buses and minibuses were sent to dumping.
