Country’s overall flood situation improves

DHAKA: The flood situation in country’s northern
region has improved further as the water levels in the Brahmaputra and the Jamuna continue to fall.

The situation in the districts adjoining the banks of the Padma started improving too with fall of the river water.

Water Development Board’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC)
Executive Engineer Sajjad Hossain told BSS today that the country’s overall flood situation is improving as the water level continues to fall in the Brahmaputra, the Jamuna and the Padma.

The situation will improve further in the next few days, he added.

Sajjad Hossain said the water is flowing below the danger level in the Brahmaputra and the Dharala.

Water level in the Jamuna continues to fall at Bahadurabad, Sariakandi and Sirajganj points. But water is flowing above the danger level at these three points.

The executive engineer said the Padma water level is continuing to fall at Goalanda, Bhagyakul and Sureshwar points. But water is still flowing above the danger level at those points.

Water levels are rising in the rivers around Dhaka – the Turag, the Balu and the Shitakkha, which might continue in the next 24 hours.

Met office said rainfall is likely to increase in the country from
tomorrow.

The northern region will experience less rain while Chittagong, Khulna and Barisal divisions will have more rainfall.
