Country observes Eid-e-Miladunnabi with religious fervour

DHAKA: The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), was observed in the country and elsewhere in the Muslim World yesterday with due reverence and religious fervour.

On this day in 570, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah of Saudi Arabia with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind. He also passed away on the same day.

The day was a public holiday.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate statements greeting the countrymen and the Muslims across the globe on the occasion and seeking eternal blessings for the people’s welfare alongside peace and harmony in the country and elsewhere in the globe.

Besides, opposition leader in parliament Begum Raushan Ershad, in a message, also greeted the countrymen on the occasion.

Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels aired special programmes while newspapers published special articles highlighting the significance of the day.

Like previous years, different social, cultural, religious, spiritual and political organisations and different state-run organisations including the Islamic Foundation (IF) chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.

On the occasion, President M Abdul Hamid today hosted a Milad mahfil at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban after Zohr prayers.

Acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, diplomats of different Muslim countries, Members of the Parliament, political leaders and high civil and military officials also attended the Milad.

Pesh Imam of Bangabhaban Jame Mosque Maulana Saiful Kabir conducted munajat after the milad mahfil.

Special munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for peace and prosperity of the country, welfare of the people and greater unity of the Muslim Ummah across the world.

Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matiur Rahman on Friday inaugurated a 15-day long programme coinciding with the Eid-e-Miladunnabi at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque under the auspices of Islamic Foundation.

The fortnight programme includes delivery of religious sermons, seminars, exhibition of Islamic calligraphy and posters based on life of the Prophet, book fair, Islamic cultural competition and recitation of poetries on him.

The Institute of Hazrat Mohammad (SAW), a research think tank working with persons with disability, organized an essay competition at a city hotel today to showcase the talents of the visually impaired students.

Different spiritual centres including Ashekane Maizbhandaria Association and Rejbhiya Darbar Sharif chalked up various programmes to celebrate the day.
