Our Correspondent, Chittagong: Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) today announced its annual budget of Tk 9151.561 million for the year 2011-12 with the main thrust on education, health, communication development and resolving water logging problem of the city.
CCC mayor M Manjur Alam announced the budget at a press conference held at the Theater Institute auditorium in the city in presence of panel mayors, councilors, elected female councilors for reserved wards and departmental heads including acting CEO Dipak Chakraborty and chief revenue officer Narayan Chandra Paul.
Tk 3256.874 million revised budget for the year 2010-11 was also announced.
Ward Councilor and president of the Finance and Establishment Standing Committee of the CCC Md Sirajul Islam announced the heads of income and expenditure for coming fiscal year that starts from July 1.
CCC has provided the highest allocation for construction of roads, culverts, re-excavation of canals and other infrastructure development at Tk 4466.4 million and for management and maintenance at Tk 2234.26 million including salary and wages at Tk 1265.9 million.
Port city’s local government body has targeted next year’s income at Tk 6408.661 million while the main earning of Tk 3528.99 million is expected from outstanding municipal and other taxes.
On the other hand, the CCC is expecting development grant for Tk 2476.9 million in the next fiscal.
In his address, city mayor said that the on-going projects include 216 kilometer roads, 96 kilometer canals’ sand removal, 91 kilometer drain construction to free the city from water-logging.
“We have also submitted a number of projects worth Tk 3440 million for maintenance and reconstruction of roads, footpaths, drains, gardens seeking approval from the government for implementation in the fiscal 2011-12,” he said.
Apart from that, the CCC has undertaken Tk. 1000 million project for development of Tourism Facilities at Patenga coastal belt. Under the public-private partnership (PPP) the CCC has undertaken Tk. 15000 million Dewanhat-Airport flyover construction and Tk. 25000 million 500-megawatt coal-based power plant, he informed.
