Campaign against drug-abuse begins Jan: Asaduzzaman

DHAKA: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said countrywide campaign against drug-abuse will be launched from January next.
“We must send message to the people particularly the drug-addicts through the campaign to create countrywide mass awareness against this social ill,” he said while speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Ahsania Mission auditorium in the city.
The home minister said the government is working sincerely keeping in mind three objects- supply reduction, demand reduction and harm reduction—to control the use of narcotics.
He said Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Coastguard and all other forces are working against contraband items including yaba and phensidyl.
President of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Kazi Rafiqul Alam presided over the discussion.
Director General of Narcotics Control Department Khandker Rakibur Rahman, former chairman of Clinical Psychology Department of Dhaka University Prof Doctor Mahmudur Rahman and Doctor Akhtaruzzaman Selim, among others, spoke on the occasion.
