BNP must pay for negative politics: Quader

DHAKA: Awami League general secretary Obaidul
Quader yesterday said BNP is doing negative politics and they will have to pay
for this.

“BNP is doing negative politics and their defeat is unavoidable for such
politics…BNP has chosen the politics of conspiracy. And the government is
aware of it,” he told a press conference at the AL president’s political
office in Dhanmondi here.

Earlier, Quader held a joint-meeting with the members of AL secretariat,
and presidents and general secretaries of AL city units and its associate
bodies to make the AL’s month-long programmes of National Mourning Day a

Noting that BNP is hatching conspiracies as they failed to create a
movement against the government, he said the country’s people are now busy
with election and they have no ‘headache’ about the BNP’s movement.

The AL general secretary said politicians of different parties should
maintain ‘courtesy in communication and working understanding’.

“BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir issued a condolence
message when my mother passed away. But, I issued a condolence message and
also called him over phone when his mother died,” he said.

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said the
government will give space to the political parties if they do not get
involved in sabotage acts.

About the upcoming general election, he said as the national election is
approaching, the scenario of politics and the working process of political
parties will be changed gradually.

Quader said AL will observe the birthdays of Bangabandhu’s elder son
Sheikh Kamal on August 5 and Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa on August 8 with
due respect.

He said the National Mourning Day will also be observed on August 15
with due solemnity. A discussion will be arranged on August 16, marking the
National Mourning Day.

AL will also observe the August 17 in which a series bomb attacks were
carried out across the country and the August 21 grenade attack day. Besides,
a discussion will be held at Krishibid Institution in the city on August 26
marking the grenade attack day.

AL organising secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, its publicity and
publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap
and cultural affairs secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil were, among others, present
at the press conference.
