BNP men to be ashamed if Zia’s involvement in Bangabandhu killing is exposed: Hasan

DHAKA: Information and Broadcasting Minister
Dr Hasan Mahmud today said the BNP leaders and workers will be ashamed
if the full history of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s involvement in the
killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is

He came up with the remark while addressing a meeting at Bangladesh
Film Development Corporation (BFDC) here, marking the National
Mourning Day, a ministry press release said.

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Md Murad Hassan,
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mokbul Hossain, Film Directors
Association president Sohanur Rahman Sohan and its general secretary
Shahin Suman, and Film Artistes Association president Misha Sawdagor
and its general secretary Zayed Khan also spoke at the meeting with
BFDC managing director Nuzhat Yasmin in the chair.

Speaking as the chief guest, Hasan said Ziaur Rahman was deeply
involved in the Bangabandhu killing and the masks of Zia and other
masterminds behind the barbaric killing will be gradually exposed.

When the history of how Ziaur Rahman played a role in the 1971
liberation war favouring Pakistan, how he was deeply involved in the
Bangabandhu killing and how he later rehabilitated the killers of
Bangabandhu will fully be unveiled, then the BNP men will be ashamed,
he said.

Hasan, also the Awami League joint general secretary, said Zia
fought the Pakistani force on the battlefield as a sector commander,
while the Pakistan Army took care of his wife and sons keeping them in
cantonment, which was never possible.

“This situation and a letter of Pakistani Colonel Beg written to
Zia proved the role of Ziaur Rahman in the Liberation War,” he said.

Later, when he was stopped there, Zia went to Karlekha hill in
Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram, Hasan said.

About the present state of the country’s film industry, the
information minister said the film industry is going through a crisis
now but the government has already taken various steps to overcome it.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has fulfilled the long-standing demand
of film artistes as the Film Artistes Welfare Trust has been
established, he said.

Hasan said a special fund involving Taka 1,000 crore has been
established for the reconstruction of cinema halls, reopening of the
closed halls and construction of new cinema halls.

“We’ll hold a meeting, led by the secretary of the ministry, with
representatives of private banks and hall owners, producers and others
concerned so that everyone can get benefit from this sector soon, he
