Bangladesh going forward under leadership of Sheikh Hasina: Mosharraf

MYMENSHINGHA: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday said Bangladesh is advancing in a faster mood under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Once upon a time, we were treated as a bottomless basket. But today those, who treated us so, are terming Bangladesh as a role model for development… Bangladesh is now going ahead swiftly under the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina,” an official release quoted the minister as he told a public rally as chief guest at Nandail upazila of the district.

Nandail upazila unit of Awami League (AL) organized the rally while Member of Parliament (MP) of Sirajganj-2 constituency Habibe Millat addressed the rally as the special guest.

Mymensingh-9 constituency MP Anwarul Abedin Tuhin presided over the function that was attended by Mymensingh-2 constituency MP Sharif Ahmed and Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) Chief Engineer Shyama Prosad Adhikari, among others.

Mosharraf said, “We are now fighting for economic emancipation… no roundtable or secret meeting could halt our progressive mood”.

Various conspiracies are being hatched centering the country, the minister said, adding, “We will give befitting reply to the conspiracies”.

Replying to a question, the LGRD minister said the government is trying its level best to help the Rohingyas so that they can lead humanitarian life and added, “But it is very difficult to give shelter to such a large number of refugees”.

Efforts are continuing to resolve the Rohingya issue internationally, he added.

Mosharraf said Mymensingh project will be implemented for development of the greater Mymensingh and declared to upgrade Nandail municipality to 2nd class status.

He also affirmed to allocate Taka 400 crore for the upazila in the next two years.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones of a total of 15 development projects being implemented by LGED at cost of Taka 50 crore.
