Backlog of women, children prevention cases reducing: Anisul

DHAKA: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said backlog of cases filed under Women and
Children Repression Prevention Act is reducing as 1,831 such trials have been
disposed in last one year.

“The good news is the backlog of cases before different Women and Children
Repression Prevention Tribunals is reducing. The total number of such pending
cases was 1, 66, 382 by March, 2018, whereas the number went down to 1, 64,
551 by March, 2019,” he said.

The minister came up with the observations while inaugurating special
training course for special public prosecutors of Women and Children
Repression Prevention Tribunal at Judicial Administration Training Institute
(JATI) here in the capital.

Presided over by JATI Director General Justice Khondker Musa Khaled, the
inaugural function was also addressed by Law and Justice Division Secretary
Abu Saleh Sheikh Md Zahirul Haque.

Terming women repression as the biggest obstacle for desired national
development, the law minister said government led by Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina after assuming office for the first time, had taken different
initiatives to address this problem.

“One of the main initiatives was to modernize Women and Children
Repression Prevention Act,” he added.

Anisul Huq urged special public prosecutors to follow all the directives
regarding time management of the court to expedite the trial process, adding,
“You have to remain active in producing witnesses and examining them on the
scheduled date.”

A total of 44 public prosecutors took part in the training.
