Staff Correspondent : Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman and noted engineer and former adviser to a caretaker government Prof Dr Jamilur Reza Chowdhury was awarded with the Sheltech Award-2010.
Sheltech, a local real estate company, handed over the awards to the eminent personalities during a function at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the city yesterday.
Sheltech has been awarding country’s eminent personalities since 1998 for their outstanding contributions to different sectors.
The award includes a spectacular crest and a prize money of Tk 0.2 million.
Dr Tawfiq M Seraj, managing director of Sheltech, said “We are very proud to honour the two noted personalities with this award.”
Dr Atiur Rahman, during his speech at the award giving ceremony, declared to donate his prize money for social cause.
He announced to donate Tk 0.1million of the prize money to Shitesh Babu, who contributed much to save the wildlife in Srimangal. “The rest would be donated to BSMMU’s endeavour to develop nursing faculty,” he added.
“I’ve always been a very simple man as I had been brought up among the mass people. So I’m always moved by their will and woes,” Atiur said, adding that he is always moved by the philosophy of Tagore.
“The dream of economic emancipation will remain a mere dream if the fate of marginal people is not developed, he said referring to Adam Smith.
