Asaduzzaman reaffirms of stamping out militancy, drugs

DHAKA: After taking oath as home minister yesterday for
the second consecutive term, Asaduzzaman Khan reiterated his stance of taking
all out measures to free the country from the menace of militancy and illegal
drugs.

“My responsibilities have been increased by manifolds as Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina keeps her trust on me for the second terms and I will try my
best to honour her faith in me,” he told when BSS asked for his reaction
after getting reassignment as Home Minister.

Describing the second assignment as a big challenge, he said, “I will
definitely give my best possible efforts to root out militancy and stop abuse
of drugs from the country in line with the government’s ‘zero tolerance
policy’ against the menace.”

The minister has expressed firm determination to make the law-enforcement
agencies particularly police as friends of the people aimed at ensuring
participation of commoners in maintaining law and order.

He expressed his optimism that Bangladesh would become a middle-income
country by 2021 with materializing the vision 2021, but the BNP-Jammat regime
militancy activities was being patronized and set up its network in the
country.

“We have become role model for the rest of the world in curbing militancy
and terrorism due to successful drives against the menace by the law
enforcement agencies,” the home minister said.

He said under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a
huge development work has been going on across the country.
