Anisul blasts some ex-ministers for making comments on exam stoppage

BHOLA: Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud said here yesterday that those who stopped examination of tender-hearted pupils by enforcing hartal (total shutdown) send their offspring for studies abroad.

“I simply become thunder-struck when some former ministers came up with remarks that what’s the benefit of examination and what’s the meaning of studies. They don’t think about the wards of people rather their only target is to flatten their wallets (pocket-load of money),” he said.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at an elite gathering after formally laying foundation stone of two sluice gates at Madras and Samraj areas under Char Fashion upazila in the district.

Barrister Mahmud said, “Politics and terrorism can’t go together. It will be a mistake from the part of Begum Zia if she thinks that amendment to the constitution can be done by killing people, torching vehicles, blasting bombs and stopping examinations of pupils of the country. The amendment to the constitution could only be done, if required, by obtaining seats in the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) with people’s support.”

The minister said, “If change of government could be ensured by blasting bombs then ownership of your (Begum Zia) residence could be changed through bombs. Time has come to give an appropriate reply to such an ill-politics.”

Barrister Mahmud called upon people from all walks of life to lodge united protests against the politics of terrorism.

Char Fashion Upazila Parishad chairman Jainal Abedin Akhon presided over the function, also addressed, among others, by deputy minister for forests and environment Abdullah Al Islam Jacob and upazila Awami League general secretary Nurul Islam.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the honours building of Char Fashion Government College and went round the 168-crore-Taka River Erosion Protection Project there.
