DHAKA:: Awami League leaders today demanded
formation of a probe commission to bring the conspirators and
masterminds behind the August 15 carnage to justice.
They came up with the demand at a discussion at the AL’s Bangabandhu
Avenue central office here on the occasion of the 46th martyrdom
anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
and the National Mourning Day.
AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the
meeting through videoconferencing from Ganabhaban.
AL general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul
Quader, AL presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque,
Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, its joint general
secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, religious
affairs secretary Advocate Sirajul Mustafa, office secretary Barrister
Biplob Barua, central committee member Parveen Jahan Kalpana, Dhaka
south city AL general secretary Humayun Kabir and Dhaka north city AL
general secretary M Mannan Kochi spoke, among others, spoke at the
meeting.
In his welcome address, Quader said tackling all conspiracies, Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina is advancing the country towards building
‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League have to
face many challenges in coming days and “Sheikh Hasina is the golden
line of our confidence. Standing on the wreckage, she wings the flag
of creation”.
The AL general secretary said the leadership of the premier in
tackling the coronavirus crisis, keeping balance between the lives and
livelihoods, is appreciated worldwide.
No matter what the conspiracy goes on, Bangladesh will move forward
under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter, Sheikh Hasina, Quader
added.
Abdur Razzaque said those were involved in the killings of
Bangabandhu and most of his family members on August 15 in 1975 and
the masterminds behind the carnage should be unmasked.
Ziaur Rahman was carried out the assassination from behind the scene
and it was proved in different activities after 1975, he said.
Jahangir Kabir Nanak questioned: “If Ziaur Rahman was not involved
in the killings, then why did he reward the killers. A probe
commission should be formed to expose the culprits behind the
killings.”
It was clear to all that Zia was involved in the assassination of
Bangabandhu, Abdur Rahman said, adding that the privileges Zia enjoyed
after this murder made it clear that the military ruler was involved
in the August 15 killing.
Hanif said Bangabandhu’s murder trial was held and some convicts
have already been executed. “But, some convicts are still on the run
in different countries. We want these killers to be brought back to
the country for execution. At the same time, we demand unmasking those
who were masterminds behind the killing”.
Nasim said those who were involved in the blueprint of Bangabandhu’s
assassination at home and abroad, those who encouraged the evil force
and rewarded the killers and those who wanted to kill Sheikh Hasina
through grenade attack on August 21 should be unmasked.
