Mr. Abdus Salam is one of the leading personalities in the field of electronic media and he is the Chairman & CEO of the best TV Channel Ekushey Television which introduced first as private TV Channel in the country. Born on July 14, 1964 in an aristocratic muslim family at 39, Gagonbabu Road of Khulna. His father MA Karim was dedicated personality who contributed significantly for the wellbeing of the common people. At the age of 17 Mr. Abdus Salam went Germany and started to live there permanently. Apart from B.Com in Business Administration, he also studied Business and Hotel Management. He could speak both in English and German like his mother tongue Bengali. After completion of his academic education he engaged himself in trade and commerce in Germany as an importer of Garments industry. He was one of the ten leading buyers in Germany. He established Square Sara Fashion through his relentless efforts. The world famous organization Nyke’s manager came to visit the activities of Square Sarah Fashion and earned the name and fame as a brilliant industrialist. Later on he established a few more business organizations.
As Abdus Salam is a very patriotic one and he has a profound love to the people of the country, he came back to his own land. Then he involved himself in some industries and financial institutions. He was elected as director of a few financial institutions including bank. He is one of the leading sponsor directors of One Bank and apart from this he is also a leading sponsor director of Union Capital, a Financial Leasing Company.
At one stage Mr. Abdus Salam decided to contribute in the media arena and accordingly he started his venture as a director of Ekushey Television, a Popular TV of the mass people of this country. But unfortunately the past BNP alliance government stopped this channel and since then a black episode begun. Since inception Ekushey Television was a victim of political vengeance and an influenced quarter of the then alliance government did not to give permission for its further broadcasting, in addition they hatched conspiracies to grab it. Mr. Salam had to endure threats, mental harassment and he alone stood against this injustice of this vested quarter. At last after a long legal battle with those conspirators he won and Ekushey Television got permission again to broadcast on December 1,2006. Ekushey Television is still on the top position due to the efficient and foresighted management of Abdus Salam despite the channel had to face many impediments earlier.
A part from the Chairman of Ekushey Television, Mr. Salam is also the Chairman of SAS Fashion Wear Ltd, Semi Sam International Litd. Sara Cotton Ltd, Sara Quality Print Ltd. He is the Managing Director of SAS Holding Ltd, Sara Trading Company Ltd, SAS Securities Ltd, SAS Apparels Ltd and an honorable Director of One Bank Ltd, Union Capital Ltd, News Today, Unider Productions Ltd, Uninet Ltd.
Alongside his business activities Mr. Abdus Salam is playing a vital role in socio-cultural arena. He is the founder of many educational institutions and welfare organizations such as M. A Salam Nursing Club, Nagarpur, Tangail, Chaihali Degree College, Shirajgonj RRK High School, Chaihali, Shirajgonj and M A Karim High School, Nagorpur, Tangail.
As he contributed enormously in the field of social welfare and Electronic Media, Mr. Abdus Salam received many awards including Arthakantha Brilliant Industrialist Business Award-2002, Dhaka Kolkata Cultural Forum Award, Rafiqul Islam Banking Award-2006, Arthakantha Business person of the year-2004, Children and Women Vision Foundation reception Award-2007, Sher-e-Bangla Smriti Award-2008 and the best entrepreneur Award of Business Magazine-2008, BGMEA Award-2009 and Khulna Mayor Award-2010. Aside this he received awards on behalf of Ekushey Television which includes Sandhani Jatiya Chakkhu Dan Samity Award-2000, Meril- Prothom Alo Award-2002, Channel I Award- 2002, Asyian City TRAB Award-2006 and 14th Dhaka Book Fair Award-2007 by National Book Centre.
