Abdul Matlub Ahmad is a leading business personality, an industrialist and an entrepreneur with a vision of development in Bangladesh. He is the Chairman of Nitol-Niloy Group of Industries, one of the prime conglomerates of the country. He established the flagship company Nitol Motors Ltd. in 1982 and is the main driving force of the Group. At present the Group is having a total number of 1500 employees. The Nitol-Niloy Group consists of Nitol Motors Ltd. (sole Distributor of TATA Vehicles in Bangladesh), Nita Co. Limited (Joint Venture vehicles Assemble Factory with TATA), Niloy Cement Industries Limited (Grey Cement), Nitol Cement Industries Limited (First White Cement Plant), Nitol Insurance Company Ltd., Nitol Sugar Mills Ltd., Nitol Pulp & Paper Mills Ltd., Nitol Tours & Travels, Nitol plastic Industries Ltd. (Luggage Mfg. Industries) and Fidelity Assets &. Securities Ltd. (Lease Financing Institution).
Mr. Matlub is the founder President of India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industries. He was the President of Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industries (BMCCI), Founder President of Bangladesh Automobiles Assemblers’ Association (BAAMA), President of Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers’ Association (BCMA), Director of Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA), Director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries and also the Director of Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Co. Ltd. (RPGCL).
In the recent past he participated in the following foreign delegations:
a) Member of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s (Sheikh Hasina) entourage during her official visit to New Delhi, India in January 2010.
b) Member of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s (Begum Khaleda Zia) entourage during her official visit to Singapore in March, 2005 and Pakistan in February, 2006.
c) Participated in the QIC Conference in Malaysia as a member of the delegations from FBCCI in June, 2005.
d) Participated in the INTERCEM ASIA (9th International Conference on Cement) in New Delhi in September, 2005, INTERCEM AMERICAS in Florida in November, 2005, INTERCEM MARRAKECH in Morocco in February, 2006; INTERCEM 20th ANNIVERSARY LONDON 2006 in June, 2006; INTERCEM DUBAI Conference in Hanoi, Vietnam in April, 2007.
e) Participated as the Co-Chairman of Task Force Meeting on Bilateral Trade between Bangladesh and India held from 20th June, 2006.
f) Led Private Business Delegation to Meghalaya on 20th June Mizoram on 22nd June, 2006 on Investment & Trade Issues.
g) As leader of Bangladesh delegation he participated in 3rd World Islamic Economic Forum held on 24-29 May, 2007 in PWTC, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Mr. Matlub received highest vote for the post of President in FBCCI election 2003 and he was walked out in protest as Election was not conducted as per rules. He is concerned about the World Environment situation and in actively working to keep Bangladesh environment congenial for the future generation. He is also giving priority to develop alternative energy. Under his active persuasion with the Govt. new check post like Belonia, Akhaura was opened for increasing trade relationship with Eastern part of India by which Bangladesh Govt. hopes to earn extra revenue.
A keen sportsman, his contribution for development games in Bangladesh is commendable. He sponsored- NITOL-TATA National Football League year 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2005.
Born in Dhaka in 1952. Mr. Matlub graduated B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. from Oxford University. He is the son of Late Justice Abu Md. Abdullah of the then East Pakistan High Court. He is married to Mrs. Selima Ahmad, an M.A. in Management from Dhaka University, who is also the founder President of Bangladesh Women’s Chamber of Commerce & Industry. They are blessed with two sons. The elder son Abdul Musabbir Ahmad (Nitol) has studied business administration in USA & Bangladesh and is the joint Managing Director of Nitol Motors Ltd. and younger son Abdul Marib Ahmad (Niloy) is still studying.
