Abdul Hai Sarker,Chairman of Purbani Group

Mr. Abdul Hai Sarker, Founder Chairman of Purbani Group, a conglomerate is a very experienced and leading business personality of the country. He has an excellent business background and highly reputed for his relentless endeavors and dynamism. Mr. Sarker has been playing a dominant role in establishing a solid industrial base in Bangladesh.

Son of late Abdul Karim Sarker and Late Hazara Khatun, Mr. Hai Sarker was born on 15, December, 1946. Abdul Hai Sarker did his M.Com. from University of Dhaka in Management in 1970 and since then he has been involved in international trade, industry and commerce.

Mr. Abdul Hai Sarker has been involved with  trade and commerce since four decade. He established  Purbani group  which comprising of Shohagpur Textile Mills Ltd. Karim Textile Ltd,Karim Spinning Mills ltd, Karim Textiles Ltd., Purbani Yarn Dyeing Limited, Purbani Fabrics Limited, Purbani Food and Beverage Limited, Purbani Fisheries, Purbani Traders, Purbani Rotor Spinning Limited and Purbani Synthetic Spinning Limited. These are all 100% export oriented industrial undertakings involving a total investment of over US $ 70 million and have create employment opportunity to 5,477 persons.

The annual turnover through direct and deemed exports is in excess of US $ 65 million. The annual contribution of this Group to the national exchequer in the form of income tax is around tk. 16 million.

Considering the importance of financial sector in the economy, he set up a commercial bank under the name Dhaka Bank Limited of which he was the founder Chairman.  He was Vice-Chairman of Bangladesh Association of Bank (BAB). At present he has been carrying out his responsibilities as the President of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) the only trade body representing spinning, weaving, dying, printing, finishing mills in the private sector. In recognition of his extra ordinary contribution to the growth of the national economy, Mr. Abdul Hai Sarker was selected CIP (Industrial) for the year 2008-09.
