Staff Correspondent: Industries Minister Dilip Barua on Sunday told the Jatiya Sangsad that non-profitable and loss-making government factories would be handed over to private sector.
“The factories, which are non-profitable and failing to turn themselves into a profitable concerns, will be handed over to private sector after a scrutiny by the Privatisation Commission,”
Barua said, replying to a question of Jatiya Party lawmaker Mujibul Haque.
Responding to a question of Shah Alam, the minister said no factory was shut down so far by the grand alliance-led government.
“But steps have been taken to restart three factories closed by the four-party alliance government,” he said.
In reply to a question of Sanjida Khan, the minister said the government had a plan to set up four gas-run urea fertiliser factories. The government has taken up four projects. Those are: Fenchuganj Shahjalal Fertiliser Project, Bhola Fertiliser Project, Sirajganj North-West Fertiliser Project and Ashuganj-2 Project.
